Privacy Policy

Who we are

Virgil is an iOS app made by Willowtale ("we", "us", "our"). We help parents guide their children through potty training with real-time AI coaching. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it.

What data we collect

Account data

• Email address and password (or third-party sign-in token via Apple/Google)
• Display name (optional)

Child training data

• Child's first name and age (in months)
• Potty training events: pee and poo logs, timestamps, outcome (potty / miss)
• Current training block and progression state
• Onboarding responses (parenting style, worries, prior attempts)

Usage data

• App opens, screen views, and feature interactions (aggregated, not linked to individuals)
• Device type and OS version for crash reporting

Waitlist data

• Email address, if you join the pre-launch waitlist

We do not collect location data, microphone input, contacts, photos, or any information beyond the above.

Why we collect it

• To provide the service — event logs are required to generate coaching responses and track block progression.
• To sync between parents — shared child state is stored in Firestore so both caregivers see the same data in real time.
• To generate AI coaching — training data is sent to Anthropic's API (Claude) as part of structured prompts. See below for details.
• To improve the product — aggregated, anonymised usage data helps us identify bugs and prioritise features.
• To contact waitlist members — one email when the app launches. Nothing else.

AI and Anthropic

Virgil uses Anthropic's Claude API to generate coaching responses. When you log an event, a structured prompt containing your child's recent training history (events, block, timestamps) is sent to Anthropic's servers via our secure backend. No personally identifying information — names, email addresses, account IDs — is included in those prompts.

Anthropic's data handling is governed by their own privacy policy. We do not permit Anthropic to use your child's training data for model training.

Firebase and Google

We use Firebase (Google) for authentication, real-time database (Firestore), and push notifications (FCM). Your data is stored on Google's servers in the EU or US, depending on your region. Google's data handling is governed by their privacy policy.

Data retention

• Account and training data is retained for as long as your account is active.
• If you delete your account, all data is permanently deleted within 30 days.
• Waitlist email addresses are deleted within 30 days of the app launching.

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. The only parties who receive any part of your data are:

• Anthropic — anonymised training event data for AI coaching (as described above)
• Google / Firebase — infrastructure for storage, auth, and notifications
• Formspree — email address, if you join the waitlist via the website

Your rights

You have the right to:

• Access the data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Delete your account and all associated data
• Export your training data in a portable format
• Opt out of aggregated analytics at any time via Settings

Children's data

Virgil is used by parents to track data about their children — not to collect data from children. The app is not directed at children and children do not have accounts. We only collect the minimum child data required to provide the coaching service (age in months, first name, and training events).
